‘We expect a tough game’ – Skinner on Manchester United’s League Cup fixture at Everton | OneFootball

Manchester United head coach Marc Skinner says that this evening’s Women’s League Cup fixture at Everton provides a great opportunity to virtually seal qualification for the quarter-finals but his side will give the Merseysiders huge respect.

The Red Devils travel to Walton Hall Park in first position in the group. A victory would make group stage elimination highly unlikely.

When speaking to the media in the pre-match press conference, Manchester United boss Skinner said that this evening’s game is a huge opportunity for his side, although he is mindful of the fact that Everton go into the game off the back of a Merseyside derby victory at the weekend.

“We won’t be disrespectful at all to Everton because they’ve just won their last game, albeit by that [controversial] goal,” Skinner said. “The reality is that when we played them earlier in the season, it was difficult at Walton Hall Park.

“We expect a tough game. It’s a game that we want to try and win because if we do win, it almost secures us to go through. We are going to try and do our best to win it but it’s also about balancing the week.”

After battling out three consecutive league draws, Manchester United returned to winning ways at the weekend as they won 2-0 at Leicester City. Skinner wants his side to continue to improve the attacking aspects of their game.

He said “We looked at the two performances against Arsenal and Aston Villa. We are adapting and evolving all of the time, trying to find new ways of putting combinations together and it was just much more like us.

“From our perspective, we have to be that team in possession. Against Everton and Chelsea with the way that they play, it’s going to be a little bit different but we have to keep that attacking edge, that’s what our fans love and that’s what we have to continue to do.

“It’s something we spoke about and it’s something we are going to make sure we fix. It’s a non-negotiable at Manchester United and we know that.”
