The Cityzens return to league action following the international break when they face Tottenham Hotspur at the Etihad Stadium this evening.
When speaking in the pre-match press conference, Taylor said that it is nice for Manchester City to be league leaders but their focus is on the next game.
“Nothing changes really,” Taylor said. “We go from game-to-game but we have to understand why we are there [at the top], that’s the important thing. Trusting the plan, trusting the way we do things gives us the opportunity to be there.
“We’ve worked hard in that sense. We’ve had to manage games every three or four days with Champions League as well which has been really good. It has been a good opportunity and at times, it has stretched our squad and presented challenges in itself, but that’s where we’ve seen players step up and really take initiative.
“It’s good for us [to be top of the table]. We know things can change quickly but we just need to move from game-to-game, focus on that and nothing further.”
This evening’s opponents Spurs have taken seven points from their first six league matches. Taylor has been impressed with some of the North Londoners’ play in the opening weeks of the season, although he knows where they can be exploited.
He said “They won late against West Ham last weekend, two second half goals and previously, I saw them against [Manchester] United where I felt they were the better team for the first 25-30 minutes, the goalkeeper for United was the best player. Before you know it, they were two or three down.
“We know the areas that we can exploit, we know their strengths and we know that we have to be really on it in the early exchanges to make sure we exert ourselves in the right way, impose ourselves in the right way on the opposition.”
Manchester City will play at the Etihad Stadium for the first time this season and Taylor says that it provides an opportunity for the team to grow their fanbase.
He said “It’s a bit different playing there on a Friday night but I think it’s an exciting game for us, we are in a good moment.
“As much as we really enjoy playing at The Joie Stadium because we have that familiarity, it’s always a good opportunity to expand on potentially getting more supporters into the stadium to be able to see us play.”
