SV Werder Bremen have secured the services of André Silva, shortly before the close of the winter transfer window. The striker joins on loan from fellow Bundesliga side RB Leipzig until the end of the 2024/25 season. Peter Niemeyer, head of professional football, confirmed the move on Monday morning.
“Things haven’t gone quite as planned for André recently. That’s what led to this opportunity arising for us on short notice. We’re fully convinced of his qualities as a player and are delighted that it’s worked out. André has been playing in the Bundesliga for several years now, is able to train fully and we hope that he will be able to quickly integrate himself into our team,” Niemeyer said.

Head coach Ole Werner is also looking forward to welcoming the new signing. “I’m very pleased that we have been able to sign André. He provides us with additional options in attack. He’s got a great presence inside the box, in addition to a strong shot and knowing how to make good runs into space.” Silva is also excited about making the move to Bremen. “I’m looking forward to being in Bremen,” he said. “Werder are having a strong season and their team have been playing together for several years under a good coach. I want to do my part in helping the club achieve their goals.” André Silva has featured in 129 Bundesliga games combined for RB Leipzig and Eintracht Frankfurt (56 goals). During his time in Leipzig, the striker was able to lift the DFB-Pokal on two occasions. The 29-year-old made his professional debut for Porto and has enjoyed stints at Sevilla FC, AC Milan and Real Sociedad. Silva has been capped 53 times for Portugal.
