Grady Diangana could leave the Baggies this summer with his contract set to expire

West Brom winger Grady Diangana has been backed to make an impact at a newly-promoted Premier League side if he chooses to leave the Baggies this summer amid interest from Leeds United and Wolverhampton Wanderers.
Congolese international Diangana is into his sixth season at The Hawthorns, and fifth as a permanent Baggies player, since his initial arrival on loan from West Ham United in the summer of 2019.
He has been a thorn in the side of many Championship teams over the years in blue and white, and played a key part in their promotion to the Premier League in his debut campaign.
His form has been relatively inconsistent over the last few seasons, but he could well leave the Baggies soon, with his contract set to expire in June and numerous top-flight clubs believed to be interested in securing his services in the upcoming window.
The 26-year-old enjoyed his best season at The Hawthorns to date last term, with seven goals and eight assists in 36 Championship appearances as Carlos Corberan's side finished fifth, but were beaten in the play-offs by Southampton.
He struggled to live up to those expectations with a slow start to the 2024/25 campaign, but has impressed more in recent months and has four goals and two assists to his name in 30 league games so far this season.
Regardless of any current form, Diangana has proven himself as one of the second-tier's top wide players over the last few seasons. Both Leeds United and Wolves have reportedly been alerted to his potential availability this summer, with his contract set to expire, and the tricky winger is claimed to be putting off a move to the MLS in the hope that a move to another English side materialises.
Albion's main rivals Wolves have been able to consolidate their position in the Premier League this season under Vitor Pereira, while Leeds currently sit top of the Championship and could return to the top-flight soon if they are able to stave off competition for the automatic promotion places from either Burnley or Sheffield United.
FLW's Albion fan pundit, Callum Burgess, thinks that Diangana will see a move back to the Premier League as a natural progression at this stage of his career, but is unsure if any team will take a chance on him with his current ceiling potentially being at a top second-tier side.
“A good next step for Grady Diangana would definitely be (to join) one of the promoted teams from the Championship next season," Callum told FLW.
“While, admittedly, I would have thought that Diangana would want to move back to London, should that arise due to his previous history with West Ham, I can’t really think of any teams where he would fit in straight away.
“A move to the MLS...we’ve seen Emmanuel Latte Lath move there from the Championship and thrive there, so that could be an interesting option for him in the future.
“That could be one that appeals on a personal level to Diangana, as they are getting more and more players that are good in the present, rather than those moving there that are past their best.
“Potentially Diangana chooses the MLS, that could be an interesting option for him.
“I think a logical step for him could be a move to a Premier League team who is trying to stay up, or one that is already settled. That could be something that appeals to him.
“Whether or not that is his level remains to be seen, because personally, I think his level is definitely a player who is top six in the Championship, but I can’t really think of a natural suitor for him off the top of my head.”
It is fair to say that Diangana is not the only West Brom wide attacker that has struggled for regular output this season - Mikey Johnston has two goals and five assists in 36 league games and Jed Wallace has one goal and assist each in 27 league outings, while the team as a whole are the third-lowest scorers in the top-half as it stands.
The Baggies look to have had their play-off hopes dashed in recent weeks, with no wins in their last five games and three consecutive losses culminating in a damaging last-minute defeat to fellow top-six chasers Bristol City last time out. They are still well in with a chance of making the play-offs, but every aspect of their game needs to improve as soon as possible if they are to clinch it.
Diangana has not been a massive help to their promotion aspirations this season, and although he has popped up with six goal contributions and some decent performances, it is clear that Tony Mowbray does not trust him to make a consistent impact. The Congolese international has, as a result, started just twice in their last eight league outings.
Baggies supporters will undoubtedly hold Diangana in high regard for his exploits at the club over recent years, particularly in their 2019/20 promotion campaign and last term, but this summer does feel like a natural end for him at The Hawthorns as he begins to enter what should be his prime years at 27-years-old by the time next season starts.
Whether he has done enough to earn a Premier League move is unclear. Leeds may well be interested in signing him as a solid, cheap option to have in their squad, but a potential deal could hinge on which league they are in for 2025/26.
