West Ham fans were treated to sights of several of their new signing as Julen Lopetegui's side edged to a shootout win over Celta Vigo at the London Stadium.

Midfielder Guido Rodriguez was handed his debut from the start, while Crysencio Summerville and Niklas Fulkrug were both named among the substitutes before being introduced in the second half.

And they watched on as their new side took the lead just six minutes in as Lucas Paqueta played in Jarrod Bowen, who finished clinically.

However, they were pegged back midway through the first half when they failed to deal with a cross to the back post, which allowed Mihailo Ristić to fire low past Areola.

But the Hammers were ahead again before the interval, with Paqueta going from creator to finisher. The Brazilian exchanged quick passes with Michail Antonio and Bowen before chipping over the onrushing goalkeeper to send the Hammers into the break in the lead.

Once again, they were pegged back just after the hour mark when Pablo Duran reacted fastest to a blocked shot to poke past Lukas Fabianski.

Despite some enterprising football on the part of Mohammed Kudus, Lopetegui's new look side couldn't find a way to grab the winner, meaning that penalties beckoned.

An early miss from new signing Ilaix Moriba saw the Hammers take an early advantage in the shootout but a miss from Fullkrug allowed Celta to get back on level terms after four spot kicks.

After two more clean round of penalties, Pablo Duran skied his effort to hand the Betway Cup to the Hammers.
