West Ham deal for Ricardo Pepi in jeopardy, he is out for 3 months | OneFootball

West Ham United cannot catch a break in their search for a striker, with disappointment looming at every corner.

The Hammers initially tried to sign Jhon Duran but saw their £57 million bid rejected by Aston Villa. The Irons turned their attention to Brighton & Hove Albion man Evan Ferguson.

Many expected West Ham to have the upper hand in the race for his signature with Bournemouth, Chelsea, and Tottenham Hotspur. The Republic of Ireland international worked with Hammers boss Graham Potter. However, the Irons have not been able to bring him to the London Stadium.

The West Ham top brass then made a shock move for PSV Eindhoven forward Ricardo Pepi. The reliably informed ExWhuEmployee revealed that the bid for the 22-year-old came as a ‘surprise‘ to many within the club.

Unfortunately, any potential deal is in jeopardy after the American footballer picked up a significant injury that could rule him out for the next three months, according to The Athletic.

Pepi started their UEFA Champions League win over Liverpool, netting a well-taken goal and providing a proper target-man assist for the impressive Johan Bakayoko.

He came off on 76 to undergo treatment after sustaining the injury, which does not appear to be an ACL tear but may result in a lengthy absence for the highly-rated striker.

Pepi would have been a fantastic addition to West Ham. He has scored at least one goal in all eight of his starts across all competitions for PSV this season, totalling 14 goals in those games.

Pepi is the young and hungry predator the Hammers need up top, bagging 18 goals and three assists in 29 appearances this season. He has been capped 33 times by the United States Men’s National team, netting 13 times.

Now, West Ham need to focus their energy on snapping up Ferguson before the close of the transfer window. The Irons need to find a way to get this one over the line.
