West Ham fans have seen their team win just the three times at St James’ Park these last 25 years.

Eddie Howe’s team were by far the better side back on 30 March this year, however, still needed to make an incredible fightback when trailing 3-1 with only 13 minutes remaining.

Alexander Isak with the first two goals and off the bench, Harvey Barnes superb. Scoring the third and fourth goals, including a trademark special from outside the area to win it.

Ahead of this Monday night at St James’ Park, the West Ham fans not showing much optimism to say the least!

I hope they are proved correct with their predictions of how this one will turn out.

West Ham fans commenting via their Knees Up Mother Brown message board:

‘Next up, an away run up to Tyneside for a Monday night game against Eddie Howe’s side packed with England internationals.

Newcastle United are, perhaps, the greatest under achievers in the country, blessed with a fanatical, one eyed support who have seen precious little silverware over the years. Currently, at the time of writing they sit in eighth place, but just a point behind a third place spot. Their minimum expectation this season must surely be CL qualification or it could be curtains for Eddie.

We, as well documented on these pages, are struggling for results, performances, and points, with perhaps last seasons reversal in the corresponding fixture the beginning of the end for a fine team put together by our current managers predecessor.

For me, this is a respect the point fixture against a side that picked up a comfortable win at the City ground on their last venture out. Gordon, Isak and Joelinton will keep us occupied at the back, while they have a sufficiently solid back four to keep us quiet down their end.’

‘My feeling of pessimism about this season and our current setup, means I think we are in for a cold night Northern rodgering at the hands of this lot.

3-0 to them, Gordon with 2 and Callum Wilson off the bench for his customary goal against us (if he’s not injured).’

‘I actually fancied us for this until I remembered it’s on a night time on TV. We’re gonna get absolutely served up !’

‘Just want to see some pride fight and a bit of organisation. Don’t want the same feeling on the Tuesday morning train home as on the last overnighter at Anfield. 3000 travelling, give us something to smile about please.’

‘Anthony Gordon to dive full length in the way as Fabianski takes a goal kick, getting a kick to the head as a result. Fabianski to get a red card and a 6 month prison sentence and two penalties awarded to Newcastle. Just for good measure.’

‘Monday night away to the furthest team in the country?

Sky really do treat the fans that attend matches with disdain, don’t they?’

‘3-0 to them, they’ll be 2 goals to the good at half time after another woeful 1st half performance from us. Isak, Gordon and Wilson with the goals for them.’

‘Gordon, Isak and Barnes against our suicidal highline and missing full backs?

The power and athleticism of Joelinton and Bruno against our midfield?

It’s going to be a massacre.’

‘Anything under 4 will be a good result.’

‘I reckon we’ll get absolutely battered performance and score and that Loppy will be given the sack before the arsenal game.’

‘If Newcastle turn up and show a decent performance, I don’t see us having any chance, unless there’s a real uptick in terms of energy and attentiveness.

Problem for us really could be, that they look better, when they don’t have much of the ball and hit you on the counter. Really tough away fixtures.’

‘Far too much optimism on here for my liking.’

‘They are bang in form and have players in the right places to hurt us. Going to be really tough’

‘I think we might get a result up there. Nothing like blind optimism.’

‘Harvey Barnes is a real jinx , just like Callum Wilson, Chris Wood and Son.

5 -1 to Newcastle (Isak 2, Willock, Barnes , Linton). Jarrod to get a consolation goal for us.

But hopefully I’m wrong and we get a result but……. it doesn’t bode well.’

‘An excuse for a few tinnys on a Monday night – think we’ll need them!!’

‘I’m hoping that my prediction of a comfortable 4-1 Newcastle win will shame me when we battle to a 1-1 draw and show some signs of life.

Regardless of misgivings about the coach we all want West Ham to get a result every time we play.

Come on Jules, show us what you are made of with your set up!’

‘The positive of this being on a Monday is that I don’t see my Newcastle supporting colleague on Tuesdays.’

‘Predicted to be 2 degrees at kick off.

I’ve booked a few days up there glamping in a hut…’

‘To follow the team away you have to be a) retired and comfortably off; b) wealthy; c) without work and roughing it or d) a podcaster.’

‘You forgot about e) insane.’

‘Not looking forward to this one little bit…’

‘One of the bigger worries for a freezing Monday night away to in form Newcastle is character.

A common theme of the thrashings to Liverpool, Chelsea, Spurs & Forest has been lack of fight, body language that says ‘here we again’ and general malaise of wanting it 5% less than the opposition that make me fear another hiding here.

Will the players respond to Lop? A battling defeat could be acceptable but an early Newcastle goal could make for a very long night which would leave Lop’s job hanging by a thread.’

‘I think Rodriquez in particular is in for a rude awakening when it comes to a British winter and playing up north!

I think character is a valid concern.’
