West Ham United are ramping up efforts to sign a new striker before the February 3rd transfer deadline.
The club have set their sights on RB Leipzig’s Andre Silva and are keen on securing his signature on a loan deal, with an alternative option also under consideration.
Meanwhile, big changes are happening behind the scenes at the London Stadium. Technical Director Tim Steidten is reportedly set to leave the club.
The decision stems from dissatisfaction within the West Ham boardroom over the signings of Niclas Fullkrug and Luis Guilherme, with both players failing to impress at the London Stadium.
Steidten’s imminent exit coincides with Graham Potter’s move to bring Kyle Macaulay in as Head of Recruitment.
Although Macaulay is not taking on a technical director role, his arrival is regarded as another sign of significant change in West Ham’s recruitment department.
With Steidten stepping away from recruitment, West Ham are keen to sign Silva and have lined up a potential alternative if they don’t get their hands on the Portuguese striker this month.
West Ham will switch their attention to Ajax striker Brian Brobbey if a deal for Silva fails to materialise, Sky Sports reports.
The 22-year-old has struggled for form and consistency this season, notching just one goal and four assists in 17 Eredivisie games.
However, the young striker could still be a decent acquisition for West Ham, given his goalscoring exploits over the past couple of years.
Last season, Brobbey recorded 22 goals and 12 assists in 43 games across all competitions. He scored 18 times in the league – only Luuk de Jong, Vangelis Pavlidis, and Santiago Gimenez netted more.
Brobbey may be underperforming his expected goals (xG) this season (one goal from 5.81xG), but he could be a formidable striker when he recovers his form.
