The Blades are back in the Championship after suffering relegation from the Premier League last season.

Chris Wilder will be hoping to guide the team back to the top flight at the first attempt, having previously overseen promotion at Bramall Lane in 2019.

The team has made a positive start to the new campaign, although they have been deducted two points by the EFL.

Financial uncertainty has impacted the Yorkshire outfit amid speculation surrounding a change in owner.

Prince Abdullah has been linked with the sale of the club in recent months, and here we take a look at all the latest news surrounding the situation…

It was reported earlier this month by Andy Giddings that talks between the prospective new owner, Tom Page, and the club had been held.

It is believed that those talks were positive, with negotiations held on ironing out the finer details of his takeover bid.

It was claimed by Rob Staton back in August that approval from the EFL to sanction the sale was imminent, but it never arrived.

This has led to weeks of uncertainty over whether the deal can be finalised or not, with supporters eager for the situation to find a resolution.

According to The Star, some doubts are growing due to undisclosed delays, which have kept pushing back the date on an official agreement.

Alan Nixon has reported that Page has previously attempted to secure a Championship club, trying to buy both Preston North End and West Brom in the recent past.

However, the US-consortium led by Page got nowhere in either pursuit, with the Baggies eventually being sold to the Patel family instead.

Nixon has also previously written of interest from Page in securing outside investment for Sheffield United from an Albanian millionaire, which may be needed to get this deal over the line.

Chris Wilder will be hoping for takeover resolution

Wilder will be hoping for a positive development surrounding the takeover soon, as it could be proving a distraction to his team.

It was also reported in early September by Nixon that the prospective owners are willing to offer the 57-year-old a bumper new deal to extend his stay at Sheffield United.

Wilder will also be hoping that any new owner will be able to provide financial security ahead of the January transfer window.

While the Blades were eventually able to sign a number of new players last summer, the uncertainty surrounding the club’s owners certainly proved a stumbling block in their ability to build a promotion-chasing side.

Sheffield United have made a good start to the campaign, with new signings like Kieffer Moore, Harrison Burrows and Michael Cooper all making a positive impact at Bramall Lane.

The Blades currently occupy a top six spot despite their points deduction, with the gap to the automatic promotion places only two points in these early stages of the campaign.

Wilder’s side take on Swansea City and Luton Town at home in the coming days before the October international break, which might give the club some much-needed time to sort out the last details of this takeover situation ahead of a busy next couple of months on the pitch.
