Former Manchester United star Michael Owen has ripped into Noussair Mazraoui after he gave away the penalty for one of Bournemouth’s goals on Sunday afternoon.
United were beaten 3-0 by the Cherries at Old Trafford.
The visitors’ goals were grabbed by Dean Huijsen, Justin Kluivert and Antoine Semenyo. For a second consecutive season, Andoni Iraola’s side have recorded a 3-0 away victory against United.
The result left the Red Devils in 13th position in the Premier League table going into Christmas.
Speaking after the match Owen was far from impressed with Mazraoui, who brought down Justin Kluivert for the penalty that gave Bournemouth a two-goal advantage.
When asked whether Mazraoui’s challenge on Kluivert was a “rash” one, Owen replied on Premier League Productions [via Manchester Evening News], “You’re being kind. A little rash?”
“A little stupid, more like.”
“What on earth are you [Mazraoui] doing? Two players are waiting for him [Kluivert], he’s not going to score from there and he dives in.”
“Just stay on your feet and usher him away. It’s just a poor, poor decision. The sad thing from Manchester United these days is they go 1-0 down and you never really think they’re going to come back.”
Owen added, “They’re not a good team. Ruben Amorim needs to be watching that game and ensure these players that are not performing do not put on the shirt again.”
“He needs to be that brutal and that ruthless.”
In his post-match press conference, Amorim admitted that things are currently hard as he continues to implement his playing style.
United are back in action on Boxing Day when they take on Wolverhampton Wanderers at Molineux Stadium.
