The January transfer window is open for business and clubs are working hard behind the scenes to get deals done.
Time is rapidly running out, however, with just days remaining until the transfer deadline.
The January transfer window actually runs until February this season. For English and Scottish clubs, the deadline is Monday February 3rd 2025. The window will officially close at 11pm GMT.
The transfer deadline for the remainder of Europe’s top five leagues is also February 3rd, though times differ. Spain, Italy, Germany and France all conclude their transfer windows on the same date.
Saudi Arabia has emerged as a major force in recent transfer windows, even if business has been less extravagant of late. Saudi sides will actually see their transfer window close on January 30.
Turkish champions Galatasaray benefitted from a later transfer deadline in the summer. After Victor Osimhen’s options dwindled with the closure of the window in Europe’s top leagues, Galatasaray snapped up the Napoli striker on a season-long loan deal. The Turkish Süper Lig’s window shuts on February 11th 2025 and will be one to keep an eye on.
Manchester City have been the highest-spending side in the January transfer window so far. Pep Guardiola’s side have brought in Omar Marmoush, Vitor Reis and Abdukodir Khusnov for a combined sum in excess of £120m.
The biggest individual deal of the window is Paris Saint-Germain’s capture of Khvicha Kvaratskhelia. Luis Enrique’s side have brought in the Napoli winger for a fee of €70m (£59m).
The only other non-Manchester City deal in the five most expensive January transfers so far is Luiz Henrique’s €33m move to Zenit St Petersburg from Botafogo.
