La Fortaleza Rojiblanca will host the Matchday 1 clash between Guadalajara and Santos, which will mark the start of the Clausura 2025 for the Rojiblanca Nation. For this reason, before Saturday's match, we will talk about a player who had a great preseason and who looks to be one of the pillars of the Rebaño Sagrado during the tournament.
Who is the player to watch against Santos?
We are talking about none other than José Castillo, who since his arrival at Guadalajara has performed extraordinarily well, both in his defensive duties and in his attacking play.
Castillo has usually been used as a winger on the left flank, although we have also seen him as a central defender, an area he is not unfamiliar with because that is how he was trained in the Tuzos' youth academy.
During the preseason for the Clausura 2025, Chivas played 4 friendly matches, in which we were able to see José Castillo in different roles. Óscar García used him as a winger on both flanks and also as a central defender, although he had a certain variation in his responsibilities, as at times he remained close to the flank providing width to the team and at other times he was positioned as another central defender.
His multi-functionality allows him to meet any need of the team, as he can start in any zone of the defense and fulfill his wide capacity in defensive duels. In addition, the young defender has evolved a lot in his footwork, which allows him to break in conduction constantly. In fact, he provided an assist in the friendly match against Jaiba Brava.
There is no doubt that José Castillo will be one of the most important players for Guadalajara in the Clausura 2025 and, most likely, the leader of the Rojiblanca backline in the opening match against Santos Laguna.
