Darwin Nunez will not play a part in Liverpool’s impending Premier League trip to Wolves on Saturday evening.
James Carroll, the Reds’ director of editorial content, reports on X (formerly Twitter) that the Uruguayan ‘misses out due to illness’.
Fortunately, Alisson Becker has returned to the starting lineup, as promised in Arne Slot’s pre-match presser.
The Merseysiders could go top of the table with a win at the Molineux stadium following Manchester City’s 1-1 draw with Newcastle United this afternoon.
Nunez has registered two goal contributions in six games (across all competitions) this term.

It says a great deal about our strength in depth – particularly as far as the forward line is concerned – that Slot’s outfit can shrug off temporarily losing a player of our No.9’s calibre.
We can’t deny it’s a shame the Uruguayan international won’t get an opportunity to extend his run of successive goal contributions.
Nonetheless, it’s the perfect time for Diogo Jota to pursue one of his trademark scoring streaks in the first-XI (frustratingly, ahead of the October international break commencing after our league meeting with Crystal Palace).
The former Wolves man has only two league goal contributions to his name in the 2024/25 season thus far. However, we expect he’ll have ample opportunity to pad his stats during today’s encounter at the Molineux.
His overall numbers (a goal involvement every 103.5 minutes), it’s worth highlighting, are far from poor.
Gary O’Neil’s men sit at the bottom of the Premier League table with the second-worst goals conceded figures (14) in the English top-flight this term behind our Merseyside rivals, Everton (15).
The former Liverpool coach will no doubt be hoping to make a bold step forward at home, whilst Slot’s in-form outfit is sure to be salivating at the Wanderers’ goals conceded rate of 2.8 per game.
