Napoli are running for the Serie A title, and Scott McTominay has played 24 consecutive matches as a starter: here’s why he’s irreplaceable for Antonio Conte.
The Scotland international joined Napoli on a permanent €30.5m deal from Manchester United last summer and is the second-best scorer at the Stadio Maradona this season with seven goals.
However, his importance for the Partenopei goes beyond his goals. As highlighted by Corriere dello Sport, the ex-Manchester United star has covered several positions in his first season at the Maradona despite starting all games as a central midfielder or attacking midfielder.

McTominay often moves across the pitch to create a numerical advantage or help the team defensively and has also played on the wings and as a box-to-box midfielder.
Corriere dello Sport Journalist Fabio Tarantino wrote that McT comes from the ‘Premier School, where the pace is high, and there’s no room for second thoughts. You sprint fast toward the ball or the goal.’
Gazzetta adds another interesting stat about the Scottish midfielder, reporting that the 28-year-old has covered nearly 12 km per game on average, more than any other player in Serie A.
McTominay has also provided four assists in league games this term.
His contract at the Stadio Maradona runs out in June 2028.
