An explanation for the absence of Pablo Barrios from Atlético Madrid’s latest matchday squad has this evening been forthcoming online.

Diego Simeone’s Atléti are of course currently locked in action.

Fresh off securing a return to winning ways in La Liga over the weekend, the Rojiblancos have turned attentions towards matters in the cup, in a Copa del Rey quarter-final meeting with Getafe.

As is customary, ahead of proceedings getting underway in Spain’s capital a short time ago, the two sides’ respective squads were unveiled online.

And hosts Atlético’s featured one surprising absence, in the form of the aforementioned Pablo Barrios:

As alluded to above, though, an explanation for as much has since been provided.

As per a statement released across the club’s social media platforms, midfielder Barrios misses out for Atlético against Getafe owing to a bout of what is simply described as ‘illness’.
