Right-back William has been at FC Schalke 04 for just over two weeks and has settled in quickly in Gelsenkirchen. “The lads helped me integrate right away and welcomed me with open arms,” said the Brazilian on loan from VfL Wolfsburg.
“If I have any questions, I know I can ask any player. They are all extremely helpful and will take the time to support me,” said William, who made his S04 debut a few days after signing away at Werder Bremen. After that 1-1 draw, the Wolfsburg loanee made his first start at his parent club in the DFB-Pokal before also beginning last time out against RB Leipzig.
The 25-year-old was naturally disappointed with the recent results. “We’re in a difficult situation right now,” he admitted. “However, I saw on the first day that this team has quality. I’m convinced that we’ll pick up points in the coming weeks.”
The first chance to collect some points will come on Saturday evening away to 1. FC Union Berlin (13/2, 18:30 CET). The right-sided specialist has been impressed with the Berliners’ performances so far this season. “I’ve seen a few of their games. They are extremely strong at home,” praised William. Nonetheless, the Brazilian has a clear aim for the game in the capital: “We are heading to Berlin to win the game and I’m confident that we will do so. We have to play with confidence and be brave for the full 90 minutes.”
