Arsenal centre-back William Saliba has admitted the Gunners simply do not deserve to be top of the Premier League table.

Liverpool sit 15 points clear at the top of the standings, having played one game more than Mikel Arteta's side. Manager Mikel Arteta has refused to accept defeat in the title race - even if a question about his side's aspirations prompted him to walk out of an interview recently.

With just ten games left to play, including a meeting with Liverpool in May, Arsenal's chances of winning the title appear incredibly slim and Saliba acknowledged that position is exactly where the team deserve to be.

"If [Liverpool] are first it's because they did something we didn't do," he said. "Of course there's a big gap but we have to keep going.

"They are so good as well. I think this season we don’t deserve to be at the top but we have to keep going and there's Champions League as well, so we will push."

Having been eliminated from both the FA Cup and Carabao Cup already, Arsenal's last hopes of winning a trophy could come in Europe, where a 7-1 win over PSV Eindhoven has effectively booked their spot in the Champions League quarter-finals ahead of Wednesday's last 16 second leg.

"If we don't believe or if we don't dream to win the Champions League, there is no point to play," he stressed.

"We are here, this season with the new format it was not easy to be qualified. Now we've won the first game [against PSV], tomorrow we've got a good chance to win a game and to be qualified. After, there is four games before the final. We can do it, we all believe that we can do it. We have to work and pray as well.

"We are sad when we don't win a trophy but we have to keep believing because we are here. We won the first game last week and if we win or draw we are in the quarter-final, then anything can happen. We have to believe in ourselves and everyone thinks we can do it."
