Wolverhampton Wanderers target David Carmo is likely to be ‘making a move away’ from SC Braga this summer, according to journalist Jacque Talbot.

The Midlands outfit are known to be in the market for defensive reinforcements following the departure of Romain Saiss, who has joined Besiktas on a free transfer.

What is the latest news involving Carmo?

A recent report from Portuguese outlet O Jogo (via BirminghamLive) has claimed that Wolves have identified Carmo as an ‘ideal target’ to improve their defensive options this summer.

However, Bruno Lage’s charges could face fierce competition for the 22-year-old’s signature, with Premier League giants Manchester United and Liverpool also listed as potential suitors.

And transfer expert Fabrizio Romano revealed that Bundesliga outfit Wolfsburg had an ‘official proposal’ turned down for Carmo by Braga at the start of the month.

Romano also reiterated that the centre-back’s €40 million (£34m) release clause is still valid and that there are ‘many clubs interested’ in his services.

What has Talbot said about Carmo?

Carmo received his maiden call-up to the senior Portugal international squad for the recent Nations League fixtures, although he didn’t feature in any of the games.

And Talbot disclosed that the 6 foot 5 ace was concentrating on the national team during his time with Fernando Santos’ side but that he expects him to take the next step in his career over the coming months.

He told GiveMeSport: “I think David Carmo would be an interesting one. He’s picked up a lot of interest there. I have asked about him.

“But basically, he didn’t want any noise and just wanted to concentrate on international football. But now he’s back, I imagine he’ll be making a move away from Braga.”

Who else could Wolves sign?

Carmo was labelled ‘fantastic’ by his former manager Carlos Carvalhal, and the extensive interest in the highly-rated central defender may mean Wolves have to keep their options open.

The Mirror have claimed that the Molineux outfit are also eager to snap up Sporting CP’s Goncalo Inacio, who has a £39m release clause inserted into his contract.

It’s believed that the capital club would be willing to negotiate that fee down to £30m, though, as they need to offload some of their players to facilitate a rebuild of their squad.

Inacio is not without his fellow admirers as well, meaning Wolves may have to move quickly if they want to sign either of their two first-choice centre-back targets.
