Plymouth Argyle have endured a difficult season in the Championship and look destined to suffer relegation back to League One.

The Pilgrims are six points adrift of safety as things stand during the current international break, and given that they have won just one of their last seven games in the second tier, relegation seems increasingly likely.

Despite producing a couple of encouraging performances against Liverpool and Millwall during the early stages of Miron Muslic's tenure, the Austrian has been unable to turn Plymouth's fortunes around, and they are still rooted to the bottom of the table.

As is always the case when a team is struggling for form, questions have been asked of certain players' performances in recent weeks, and Football League World's Plymouth fan pundit has made it clear which player he feels needs to pull their finger out.

"Significant work" needs to be done by Plymouth star

We asked our Plymouth fan pundit, Chris, which player in the squad he feels needs to improve right now, and he pointed to one of Wayne Rooney's summer signings.

"With Argyle's hopes of remaining in the Championship dwindling after our recent 3-2 loss to Derby County, many fans are looking at individual player performances for possible scapegoats to blame," Chris said.

"I personally believe that it is not only the recent shake-up we have had in terms of managerial changes, but also changes in tactics, and the lack of funding available during transfer windows for the prospect of attracting other players, which has caused our downfall.

"However, there are some players who I believe, when they have come in, require a little bit of improvement.

"One player I would like to highlight, who has had regular first team football, is Rami Al Hajj. Although when he was brought in he showed promise by scoring a few goals, as well as providing a few assists in his initial games, he has since dropped off in terms of his performances and has become little more than a late substitute.

"I believe that there is significant work for him to do. It may simply be that his style of play does not suit what Miron Muslic wants, or it could be that he is simply lacking in confidence.

"Either way, I believe that he needs to do a lot of improving during the next few months, or potentially once we are in League One."

Al Hajj has not quite lived up to expectations

Plymouth signed Rami Al Hajj from Danish side Odense for a reported fee of around £840,000 towards the end of the summer transfer window.

The 23-year-old has scored three goals in the Championship during his debut season in English football, but he has not consistently produced the sort of performances that Plymouth supporters would have hoped for at the time of his arrival.

The midfielder has only made one cameo appearance from the bench during the Pilgrims' three most recent games, so it is clear that Muslic does not see him as someone who is going to fire them to safety between now and the end of the season.

It will be interesting to see whether Al Hajj stays at the club if Plymouth are relegated, because if he wants that to definitely be the case, he will need to show an improvement to his game in the next couple of months.
