Cameroon did make history by beating Brazil 1-0 in their group stage game, but that didn’t stop the African side from bowing out of the competition.
It would be fair to note that the group Cameroon found themselves in was not easy and many expected them to finish rock-bottom, which isn’t something that happened. They gave themselves a strong chance of making it to the knockout stages and as has been the case for other teams, it was about the small margins.
All of Switzerland, Serbia and Brazil have better squads, but Cameroon gave all of them a run for their money and picked up a couple of moments that fans will remember for a while.
Most impressive player: Vincent Aboubakar was arguably Cameroon’s most important player. His incredible chip against Serbia and the goal against Brazil will be replayed for quite some time by football fans his game-changing contributions nearly got Cameroon over the line too.
Biggest disappointment: Their expectations weren’t too high and because of that, disappointing aspects are tough to pick out. But getting a point from the Switzerland game would have been huge for Cameroon, especially in hindsight.
Grade, B: It was a tournament with incredible moment and for Cameroon, that is all that will count.
