Lincoln City are a side that mean business this season, with Michael Skubala creating an outfit that look set to challenge for League One promotion.

Having pushed for the third tier play-offs in the previous campaign, the Imps have continued where they left off in 24/25, with just one defeat all season seeing them sit in the top six as it stands.

With quality all over the park, Sincil Bank has played host to a side that has plenty of attacking intent, and is a match for anyone in the division on their day, and look set to be competing at the top of the table for the season ahead.

But which player has the brightest future ahead of him? We spoke to Football League World’s City fan pundit Gary Hutchinson to get an opinion from the match going fan.

Ethan Erhahon tipped for international success after Lincoln City displays

While the likes of Bailey Cadamarteri, Freddie Draper and Ben House might get all the credit for their work in the final third, it is the match-dictating efforts of Ethan Erhahon that have caught the eye the most at Sincil Bank over the past 18 months.

Since arriving from St Mirren in January 2023, the Scot has been a virtual ever-present in the Imps midfield, with his effortless nature with ball at feet seeing him rule the roost in the engine room.

Not only is he an assured presence in possession, but the 23-year-old’s tenacity when defending adds another dimension to his game, and has left Hutchinson purring at what he has seen from the midfielder.

When asked about the player with the highest potential, the Imps fan said: “Ethan Erhahon is the player that I think could play at a higher level, in fact it is almost certain that at some point he will play at a higher level.

“He has been linked with Championship clubs ahead of this winter window coming, and I think there is bound to be interest, and the figure will be over £1 million, which would be a record sale for us.

“He is just effortless in what he does; he handles the ball so well, he is composed in possession, he can get out of tight spaces, he can thread a pass.

“He is never really the player on the end of passes, he is never really the player that is even creating the first assist, he is a second assist or third assist man, he does all the dirty work in front of the back four.

“He is a great holding midfielder, easily of Championship quality and will be a Scotland international before too long as well, so he is the one with the highest ceiling at the moment.”

Ethan Erhahon already attracting transfer interest

With his superb performances for City, it is no surprise that interest is already growing in the young talent, just as Hutchinson eluded to.

Reports from TBR last month claimed that there are a number of Championship sides interested in his signature in January, with Burnley and Norwich City just two of the sides with their hat in the ring.

West Bromwich Albion and Hull City were also two of the names interested, with Erhahon picking up City’s Player of the Year award last season after his performances in the middle of the park.

The Scot signed a long-term contract with the club when he joined in January 2023, so there is no chance that the Sincil Bank outfit will lose him on the cheap, with is sale likely to reap in more than club-record Harry Toffolo, after his transfer to Huddersfield Town.

With the sale to the Terriers and sell-on clause when he moved to Nottingham Forest, the defender is said to have generated £640,000 for the club, with Erhahon set to eclipse that if Lincoln do look to cash in in the future.
