It’s safe to say Antony has become something of a player reborn with Real Betis, but that’s doesn’t mean he has a future at Manchester United.
Some players just simply aren’t cut out for England’s top flight. It’s that simple. And it’s a reoccurring case for countless players who’ve made the switch from another one of Europe’s top leagues before failing to make their mark on the Premiership.
After two and a half seasons plying his trade at Old Trafford, fans have conceded defeat that Antony will not be a success for the club, and if recent reports are anything to go by, so have the key decision-makers.
When he initially joined the Spanish outfit on loan in January without a buy option included in his terms, the expectation was that he’d return to United upon the culmination of the campaign and look to revive his Red Devils career in 2025/2026. However, speculation suggests a permanent move is now on the cards for the winger, who’s driven up his transfer valuation with his recent stellar performances.

Indeed, Antony has hit the ground running in La Liga, so much so that his displays have reportedly caught the eye of a host of potential suitors – including one of the division’s top dogs in the form of Atletico Madrid, as per iPaper Sport.
Four goals and four assists in 12 appearances have seen the 25-year-old become an instant hit with the Betis faithful – as well as his teammates; Real Madrid legend Isco joked over the weekend that the club should crowdfund to extend their star man’s stay beyond the summer.
They’d need to do something of the sort, too, as United have placed a £40 million valuation on their player, which is set to price Betis out of a move if they wanted to negotiate a permanent deal.
