Wrexham cruised to a dominant 3-0 victory over Charlton Athletic to secure a landmark third straight promotion and mark their long-awaited return to the second tier after a 43-year absence.
Earlier in the day, Wycombe Wanderers' 1-0 defeat to Leyton Orient meant Phil Parkinson’s men knew that a win against the Addicks would guarantee them second place in League One.
The home side struck twice in quick succession during the opening half, with Ollie Rathbone’s crisp finish giving Wrexham the lead at the Stok Cae Ras.
Just three minutes later, Sam Smith netted a wonderful volley to score his sixth goal for the club since arriving from Reading in January.
Smith later added a second to complete his brace, while Wrexham recorded their 23rd league shutout of the campaign - clinching second place with a match still to play, all in front of their Hollywood owners Ryan Reynolds and Rob McElhenney.
The result crushed Charlton’s chances of automatic promotion; Nathan Jones’ side sit fifth and will now focus on the forthcoming play-offs.
