Speaking to Ruhr Nachrichten, Nice journalist Leandra Iacono has revaled that it is likely that Youssoufa Moukoko will return to Borussia Dortmund in the summer.
The 20-year-old moved to the south of France in the summer in search of game time. In the loan agreement, there is a €18m purchase option but it is unlikely that this will be activated by Nice:
“The club has not yet made an official statement, but there is no doubt that the purchase option will not be exercised.”
Moukoko has played 22 times for Nice this season but has not featured for the first team in close to a month, with his last appearance being a five-minute cameo in the Coupe De France. In his 22 appearances, Moukoko has only scored twice. On the 20-year-old, Iacono said:
“Moukoko has often had chances, but has never been convincing. OGC Nice currently has hardly any injuries. If all the players are there, then it is difficult for him to even make the squad,”
The German youth international has a contract at the Signal Iduna Park until 2026, whether he will be given another chance to deliver on his previous potential or be sold in the summer is yet to be seen. Ahead of Moukoko in the pecking order is Serhou Guirassy and Maximilian Beier, while Sebastien Haller is also out on loan at Utrecht.
