Spurs squandered a two-goal lead against their rivals and ultimately fell to a 4-3 defeat against the Blues, extending their winless run to four games.

Dominic Solanke and Dejan Kulusevski had put Ange Postecoglou’s side into a commanding early lead but Jadon Sancho would respond to half the deficit heading into half-time.

The hosts then allowed their visitors the chance to move back onto level terms when Bissouma brought Moises Caicedo down with a wild lunge just after the hour mark to concede the first of two penalties.

Cole Palmer stepped up on both occasions to put Chelsea into the lead, albeit a late reply from Heung-min Son’s late goal briefly threatened to set-up a grandstand finish.

Sky Sports pundit Jamie Carragher slammed the Spurs midfielder for his role in the goal.

“I’ve said all day that some of the things Tottenham players do is absolutely ridiculous.

"It's a certain penalty, and it was his [Bissouma's] mistake initially on the far side, losing the ball to Neto.

"And he maybe comes flying across thinking I've got to try and rectify this in some way.

"He was really poor on the first challenge on Neto. That is absolutely braindead. I mean, who'd be a manager?"

Bissouma, who was booked for the challenge, took to Instagram after the game.

"I'm so sad for that mistake,” he wrote.

“It's burning me because we lost the game today from this mistake.

"I feel sorry for my teammates, staff, and fans. I take all the responsibility for that one.

"I’ll learn from this one. It's time now to show the real me.

"Thanks for all the support."
