The biggest saw both Giorgio Scalvini and Gianluca Scamacca undergo surgery for torn anterior cruciate ligaments in their knees, keeping them on the sidelines for at least six months.

Zaniolo latest Atalanta setback

Now Zaniolo has been left out of the squad for this afternoon’s pre-season friendly match away to St. Pauli.

The initial reports suggest he has tendinitis in his left foot and will be undergoing further specialist consultation and tests at the La Madonnina hospital in Milan.

The left foot is also where he suffered a metatarsal fracture that ruled him out of Italy’s team for EURO 2024.

Meanwhile, new signing Retegui only completed his transfer from Genoa yesterday and is already hoping to make his debut 24 hours later.

Teun Koopmeiners is not in the squad, as he is refusing to train or play so that he can push through a transfer to Juventus.
