Over the past few matches, KV Mechelen have seen the emergence of a new talent. 21-year-old Bill Antonio. Besnik Hasi has given the youngster a chance after he impressed for the sides second team, where he has scored five goals in 13 games. The young winger he has taken his opportunity with both hands. In the win against Gent a few matchdays ago he came off the bench to score the winner, while he then followed that up last night with another well taken goal against Anderlecht.
Antonio, from what we have seen so far, is not afraid to take players on. Against Anderlecht he attempted four dribbles, with one being decisive. The turn of pace he exhibited to beat Louis Patris was frightening, and the finish was incredibly well taken to match.
KV Mechelen have always been a side that seems to develop strong wide players, and Antonio looks like he could be the next one in the pipeline. His talent has not got unnoticed back in Zimbabwe either. The Warriors have already capped him once, with his debut coming against South Africa back in 2021. If he continues to perform as he is, he will certainly be a regular for the country going forward.
He also won’t be the first to forge a footballing career in Belgium from the country. Knowledge Musona, who has captained the national team, spent time with the likes of Eupen, Oostende, KSC Lokeren and Anderlecht before moving to Saudi Arabia.
