Liverpool are not standing still despite winning the Premier League title. The Reds are making plans to add to the squad, with Arne Slot delivering the title largely with the players handed over to him by Jurgen Klopp.
The Dutchman found an extra gear in Mohamed Salah, who scored 29 goals and added 18 assists throughout the successful Premier League campaign.
Liverpool were also boosted by Salah signing a new contract - extending his terms until 2027 - which is the eve of his 35th birthday. Despite that new contract for Salah, Liverpool seem to be searching for a long-term option on the right wing.
Should the Reds’ sporting director Richard Hughes succeed in landing a right winger, there is the potential for any new signing to share duties with Salah until the time comes that he departs Anfield.
We’ve seen Rayan Cherki and Anis Hadj-Moussa - among others - associated with a move to Merseyside.
Those players feature in Salah’s position, if not an exact stylistic match for him. Any new signing who comes to the club as a right winger is unlikely to be as explosive - or decisive in front of goal - as Salah is.
That means Arne Slot re-organising his attack to perhaps lessen his dependency on Salah’s finishing and playmaking skills over time.
And if that’s the case then the latest links with Maghnes Akliouche make sense.
The 23-year-old Monaco winger operates from the right and is predominantly left-footed. And, according to Caught Offside, Liverpool are serious contenders for the French Olympian.
“The Reds are also joined by the likes of Manchester United, Manchester City, Newcastle United, Nottingham Forest, and Tottenham in tracking Akliouche,” a report reads - indicating that the league champions will have to fight off plenty of Premier League suitors to land the creative force.
Akliouche provided five goals and 10 assists for the Principality side across the Ligue 1 season. He also added two goals and two assists in the Champions League.
Under contract at Monaco until 2028, it’s going to take a sizeable fee to take him out of his boyhood club.
“Akliouche could leave Monaco for a fee in the region of €60-70m,” the report states.
