Manchester City do need to sign a right-back this summer. Currently, Matheus Nunes and Rico Lewis are sharing duties at right-back for Pep Guardiola’s side. It’s one position that City must upgrade this summer. Now, a new report indicates that Juventus defender Nicolo Savona has agreed personal terms with Manchester City.
Santi Aouna of Foot Mercato has reported via X that Nicolo Savona has verbally agreed on personal terms with Manchester City. Furthermore, Aouna reports that Savona is keen to move to the Etihad. It is also reported by Aouna that Flamengo right-back Wesley is Manchester City’s main summer target for the right-back position this summer. But City are yet to agree on a transfer fee with Flamengo to sign the Brazilian defender.
Nicolo Savona has established himself in the Juventus first team this season. Savona has made 36 appearances in all competitions for Juve this season. Savona has contributed 2 goals and laid off one assist this season. He has primarily played at right-back, although he can play as a centre-back if required. Savona is solid defensively, which stands out in his play. He is primarily a defender first rather than an attacking full-back. Savona is only 22 years of age, with the potential to develop as a player. He isn’t poor in possession, and he does have the raw ability to improve. He’s calm in possession, and his delivery from wide areas while not spectacular, is serviceable. However, under Pep Guardiola you’d expect Nicolo Savona to develop as a player in possession if Manchester City did sign him this summer.
Nicolo Savona is now the latest defender who Manchester City could move for this summer. He’s a good young defender, with the potential to improve. Savona is the type of player that City do typically target. It now remains to be seen if they do move for Italian defender this summer.
