Sheffield Wednesday prospect Bailey Cadamarteri's future potential has been the subject of much discussion following his loan spell at Lincoln City, with questions arising about his capability to reach Premier League level.
FLW’s Lincoln City fan pundit Gary Hutchinson has now shed light on the young striker's development trajectory and current abilities.
The comprehensive assessment of Cadamarteri suggests a player who currently appears more suited to League One level, despite showing promise during his loan spell.
"It's quite an interesting one because I think he's had a decent time with Lincoln, but he hasn't stood out," Hutchinson explained, before drawing comparisons with other successful loan strikers.
In comparing Cadamarteri to previous Imps loanee Joe Taylor, Hutchinson noted that the then-Luton Town forward was "quick, energetic, could get in behind, could really finish," highlighting the differences in impact between the two players.
This observation led to his forthright assessment of Cadamarteri's current level: "I think Bailey looks like a League One player while he's at Lincoln."
The evaluation became more direct when addressing Premier League potential.
"I haven't seen anything in Bailey Cadamarteri, if I'm entirely honest, to suggest that he would be a Premier League player," Gary stated.
"If you ask me if he looks like a Jordan Rhodes or someone who could play at any level, a Britt Assombalonga or a Jamie Vardy, or a Jermaine Defoe - a natural finisher who could finish at any level - then I'd say no, I don't see that in Bailey Cadamarteri.
"When you're 19, 20, 21, there's still an awful lot that you still have to learn. If you learn it and learn it well - you can go on to progress, so I wouldn't rule it out."
The path from League One to the Premier League represents one of football's most challenging journeys, with few players successfully making the transition.
However, Cadamarteri's age and development potential remain significant factors in his favor.
Many successful strikers have shown that early career assessments don't always determine final outcomes, with dedication to improvement and adaptation to higher levels of competition often proving more crucial than initial impressions.
For Sheffield Wednesday, nurturing Cadamarteri's development while managing expectations will be crucial.
His loan experience at Lincoln City has provided valuable playing time and development opportunities, even if it hasn't immediately marked him out as a future Premier League star.
However, his impressive goalscoring form in the Championship last season for Sheffield Wednesday, coupled with historic reported interest from Premier League side Brentford, suggests there is significant potential to be unlocked.
The next phase of his career could prove pivotal in determining whether he can exceed current expectations and develop into a higher-level striker.
