As has been the case on several occasions already since Ruben Amorim took the reins, Manchester United’s performance made for difficult viewing last night.

Ultimately, they progressed to the next round of the FA Cup via a last-gasp bullet header from Harry Maguire. United will be counting their lucky stars that there was no VAR involved at this stage of the competition, as the match-winner would’ve undoubtedly been chalked off for an offside had the technology been used.

The Reds entered the interval trailing 1-0 to Leicester City – a side that sit 18th-placed in the table and have sustained 15 defeats already this Premier League campaign. To make matters worse, they failed to even register a single shot on target in the first 45 minutes, making it now only one game in their last 15 outings that they’ve scored a first-half goal.

‘Absolute shocker’ of a first half from United

Similarly, Rasmus Hojlund had completed just two passes when he headed down the tunnel for half-time, while Kobbie Mainoo, who was ‘barely in the game’ – albeit through no fault of his own – recorded only four touches in the first 25 minutes of action at Old Trafford.

Things became so despondent in the second half that fans in attendance resorted to chanting, ‘Attack, attack, attack’, and when that one is dusted off by the United faithful, you know it’s been a rough night. The equaliser came courtesy of Mainoo’s replacement, Joshua Zirkzee, for his fifth goal of the term.

Nonetheless, the side now has eight days to prepare for next Sunday’s league clash away to Tottenham Hotspur. With so much time to get their bearings in order, supporters have every right to be expecting noticeable improvements in how the team fare next time out.
