Francesco Farioli has decided to part ways with Ajax after a disappointing end to the Dutch league campaign, which saw them lose out on the title to PSV.
The Italian manager chose to step down, despite the club’s board wanting him to stay on.
Ajax had been leading the pack from week 21 through to 32, and at one stage were nine points clear of PSV. But a string of poor results derailed their title push, and they were overtaken in the penultimate round - never managing to get back on top.
Despite the way things ended, Farioli’s work was still appreciated by the Ajax hierarchy, who were clearly disappointed with his decision to leave.
Farioli oversaw 54 matches during his time at Ajax, winning 35, drawing seven and losing 12. No official word yet on what’s next for him, but rumours in the Italian press suggest Roma could be his next stop.
