The representatives of Alejandro Garnacho expect interest from the Saudi Pro League in signing the Manchester United starlet this summer, according to a report.
Garnacho is scheduled to sit down for showdown talks with Old Trafford executives “in the coming days” after a bust-up with Ruben Amorim over the decision to drop the 20-year-old winger for the Europa League final.
The Red Devils fell to a dismal 1-0 defeat at the hands of Premier League rival Tottenham Hotspur in Bilbao, compounding one of the worst season’s in the club’s history.
In his post-match interview, Amorim was asked about the decision to start Mason Mount over Garnacho, despite the Argentinian international having played a pivotal role in helping United reach the final in Spain.
The Portuguese coach delivered a prickly response, undoubtedly driven by the disappointment of having just lost a European final, referencing Garnacho’s miss in the semi-final against Athletic Club in his explanation.
Both Garnacho and his camp responded furiously to this interview, with the winger’s brother accusing Amorim of “throwing him under a bus” while the 20-year-old delivered a brutal interview of his own in the San Mames Stadium.
As a result, there are talks planned between Garnacho’s representatives and the club over a potential exit with United “open to facilitating a move” this summer, according to ESPN.
The winger has previously been linked with Chelsea and Napoli, with the Blues still retaining interest, but the report states the list of suitors is growing after this dispute with Amorim. “Sources have told ESPN that Garnacho’s representatives are also expecting interest from other Premier League clubs and from Saudi Arabia.”
A move to the Middle East would likely provide United with the highest price for Garnacho, as well as the best contract proposal to the youngster.
Bu the Saudi Pro League has already seen one pursuit of a Red Devil fail this month after Al-Hilal launched an ambitious approach to sign Bruno Fernandes.
An eye-watering offer was tabled to the Portuguese international but there has been no suggestion the club captain would be open to the move, nor any willingness on United’s end to facilitate it.
In fact, a report by TeamTalk reveals both the player and the club are “singing from the same hymn sheet” in their rejection of the offer – a stance which the Saudi side are aware of.
But where a blockbuster pursuit of Fernandes failed for the Saudi Pro League, a similar approach for Garnacho would almost certainly be welcomed by United as INEOS seeks to buttress Amorim’s transfer budget this summer.
