Raul Asencio has been one of the biggest positives of the ongoing season for Real Madrid.
The 22-year-old centre-back has made the most of his opportunities, risen from injuries in the defensive department, to establish himself as a first-team regular under Carlo Ancelotti.
Not only that, but the La Fabrica graduate has now earned his maiden call-up to the Spanish national team on the back of his impressive performances for Los Blancos.
Given his meteoric rise in the past few months, Real Madrid have been working to renew Raul Asencio’s contract and hand him fresh and improved terms reflecting his new status within the club.
Now, Fabrizio Romano reports that the agreement between Asencio and Real Madrid over a new long term contract is ‘almost done’.
Since making his first-team debut back in November, the Spanish centre-back has played 30 times for Ancelotti’s side, even registering a couple of assists.

Asencio has shown his mettle on the biggest occasions, shining against top oppositions like Manchester City and Atletico Madrid.
So, it does not come as a surprise that Real Madrid want to extend his contract, with his current one set to expire in 2026.
During an interview earlier this week, Asencio was asked about his future plans. The 22-year-old’s response was very clear as he stated in no uncertain terms that he wanted to be at Real Madrid and taste success.
“I want to renew and stay at Real Madrid for many years,” said Asencio.
When asked where does he see himself in ten years, Asencio replied, “At Real Madrid and the Spanish national team. I want to be here.”
Now it appears that the agreement between the player and the club is all but done, with the final details set to be sorted out in the coming weeks.
