Few transfer sagas have dragged in quite as much as that of Bayern Munich wing-back Alphonso Davies. The 24-year-old has been the subject of interest of Real Madrid for what has felt like years.
Reports last month had placed the left-back close to finalising a move to Spain, but fresh reports from Relevo now seem to indicate that the defender could be close to renewing at the Bavarian giants.
The relationship between Davies and Vincent Kompany is said to be a big driver of the progressing talks between the two parties, while the player wants to show his club gratitude for taking a chance on him when making the move from MLS, by listening to their offer before any other club.
Davies is now free to negotiate a pre-contract deal with any club he should choose now that we are in the New Year, but it is thought that Bayern Munich will be given top priority.
This will come as a blow for many Real Madrid fans, plenty of whom will have thought that the move for Davies was effectively a done deal.
All eyes will continue to be on the 24-year-old in the coming weeks, as he makes his final decision on where his future lies.
