Ancelotti faces two major selection headaches before Arsenal showdown

Real Madrid are gearing up for a vital Champions League quarter-final clash against Arsenal, but manager Carlo Ancelotti still has two major doubts looming over his starting XI for Tuesday’s first leg at the Emirates Stadium in London.
According to Real Madrid Confidencial, the first issue lies at right-back. Lucas Vazquez’s recent poor form has raised questions about his reliability in such a crucial fixture.
Ancelotti has previously turned to Federico Valverde to cover that role in European games, and it is a solution he might consider once again. However, placing the Uruguayan in defence would create a significant shift in midfield dynamics.
In that case, veteran Luka Modric is expected to step into a more central role. The Croatian, now 39 and club captain, has seen more minutes recently as Real Madrid adjust to injuries and tactical reshuffles.
The second concern is in goal. Injuries to Thibaut Courtois and Andriy Lunin have left the club in a precarious position.

Against Valencia, it was young Fran Gonzalez who stepped in. While the academy goalkeeper did his best, his inexperience showed, and a Champions League knockout tie presents a much bigger challenge.
Reports suggest Courtois could be closer to returning than expected, with Ancelotti keen to have his number one between the posts if he is declared fit.
Lunin remains doubtful, and his availability will depend on his recovery in the coming hours. Should neither senior keeper be ready, Gonzalez could be thrust into the spotlight once again.
Following a damaging defeat to Valencia in La Liga, Real Madrid know the Champions League now represents their clearest path to major silverware this season.
Ancelotti will be desperate to field his strongest available team, but with two key positions undecided, his final choices could prove decisive.
