Lazio sporting director Angelo Fabiani revealed the club is indeed eyeing a move for Jacopo Fazzini, albeit he’s not the only one on the shortlist.

Angelo Fabiani Opens Up on Lazio Interes Jacopo Fazzini

Over the last few days, the Biancocelesti have reportedly negotiated the young midfielder’s transfer with Empoli, and some suggest an agreement isn’t too far away. While on the sidelines of the club’s final training session of the year, Fabiani discussed some of the club’s plans for 2025 with reporters who interrogated him about Fazzini’s potential arrival (via TuttoMercatoWeb).

Fazzini is an excellent player. But I can assure you that we are also looking at other profiles, we will certainly do something on the market. However, I would like to remind myself that the January market has always been called the repair market, but if we see that we can improve we must do it. This is not a promise, but a guideline that we adopted. Like Fazzini, there are many other good players, so we will see how the situation evolves in the coming days. However, I hate forcing things, overhyping a name is never good. At Lazio, you have to enter on tiptoe, like Zaccagni, Marusic, Patric and the others did.

Fabiani Wasn’t Too Convinced by Fisayo Dele-Bashiru

The 63-year-old also stressed the fact he doesn’t make the market decisions on his own, but only after congregating with others at the club, as was the case with Fisayo Dele-Bashiru whom he wasn’t keen to sign.

The market is not made by social media and not even Fabiani does it alone. A series of convergences are needed, I will name one above all. When we signed Dele-Bashiru, if there had only been Fabiani’s opinion, the percentage of his arrival would have been low. However, we met with the scouting area, with my right-hand man Bianchi and [Marco] Baroni and we noted some qualities. The lad is giving us answers on the pitch and this will apply to everyone, not just Dele-Bashiru. I don’t like a man alone in command, I like to share and discuss with everyone.

Mario Gila’s Future

On another note, Fabiani is hoping Mario Gila resists the temptation of returning to Real Madrid if they come calling for his services.

Lazio has so much charm so I don’t think about the lure of others. Gila still has a few years left on his contract. We did well to sign him when nobody knew him. He didn’t play at first, then he had the opportunuty and he was good at imposing himself.

The Business Model

The director also discussed Gaetano Castrovilli’s situation at the club, while revealing the business models Lazio are looking to imitate.

We signed Castrovilli last summer on a one-year contract, and we knew he had some physical problems. This cruciate ligament injury never caused him any further problems, he had injuries perhaps linked to other problems. When he was called into action he did his part. He could have done much more but not having the minutes in his legs didn’t help him. Taking away a place from Rovella, Guendouzi or even Dele-Bashiru is not easy and it is not easy to find a player who can match the level of these players. The bar has been raised. The objective was to work like Feyenoord, Celtic and Atalanta, we are following this path. We are five months into a three-year project.
