Kathrine Kuhl, the 21-year-old Danish midfielder, has left Arsenal to join AS Roma in a permanent transfer reportedly worth €100,000.

Kuhl departs North London after two years, during which she struggled to establish herself in a highly competitive squad.

Kuhl arrived at Arsenal in January 2023 from FC Nordsjælland, heralded as one of Europe’s brightest midfield talents. She made an immediate impact with a debut in a League Cup victory against Aston Villa and scored her only goal for the club in the FA Cup against Leeds United. However, despite her technical skill and versatility, Kuhl was unable to secure regular minutes, making just 27 appearances in all competitions.

In January 2024, Kuhl was loaned to Everton, where she made 10 league appearances. The Toffees were reportedly interested in signing her this transfer window, but Roma, also owned by the Friedkin Group, secured the deal. Roma’s ambitions in both Serie A and the UEFA Women’s Champions League, where they are in the quarter-finals, likely played a role in attracting the midfielder.

The move reflects both Arsenal’s respect for Kuhl’s talent and recognition of her need for consistent game time, something the Gunners were unable to provide. Speaking about the transfer, our Arsenal analyst, Sylvain Jamet, noted, “Kuhl never plays with us, she needs to go. Arsenal have just slowed down her development.”
