Arsenal put an end to any hopes of a Real Madrid comeback with a confident 2-1 win at the Bernabéu, sealing a 5-1 aggregate victory and booking their spot in the Champions League semi-finals.
The Gunners had a golden opportunity to take the lead early in the game when Bukayo Saka won a penalty — but he fluffed his lines, with Thibaut Courtois getting down to save it.
The English side stayed solid, barely gave Madrid a sniff, and eventually broke the deadlock just after the hour mark, with Saka making up for his earlier miss by slotting home a calm finish.
Madrid responded almost instantly, as Vinicius Jr. capitalised on a rare mistake from William Saliba to pull one back. But the hosts never really looked like mounting a serious comeback.
Gabriel Martinelli wrapped things up late on with a well-taken goal to seal the win on the night and knock out the reigning champions in style.
It’s a massive result for Mikel Arteta and his side, who are into the Champions League semi-finals for the first time in 16 years — and they'll now face PSG in what promises to be a huge clash.
