Arsenal could look to sign Sporting CP striker Viktor Gyokeres during the ongoing January transfer window after losing Gabriel Jesus to a long-term injury, according to French outlet L’equipe.

The Brazilian could be out for the rest of the 2024-25 campaign after picking up a suspected anterior cruciate ligament injury last weekend, and Gunners manager Mikel Arteta wants a replacement as Bukayo Saka is also out until further notice.

Gyokeres has been on the radar of Arsenal for a while and the North Londoners could consider a move for him despite his €100 million release clause.

The Gunners are no longer reluctant to pay such an amount for a striker after spending something similar on England international midfielder Declan Rice.

The 26-year-old Sweden international has 32 goals to his name in 30 appearances across all competitions so far this term, and Arsenal could do with such a hitman in front of goal.

Gyokeres has what it takes to take the Gunners to the next level, and while a January move for Newcastle United striker Alexander Isak is all but impossible, getting the Sporting star could be feasible.

Activating his €100m release clause could get the job done, and Arsenal fans will hope the club can successfully secure the services of such a striker.

He could be the difference maker for them in the title race this term and going forward, and they should not hesitate to break the bank for him.

Gyokeres has plenty to prove in the Premier League after failing to get a chance with Brighton & Hove Albion, but he has since shown what he is capable of doing in the Portuguese top-flight, and a return to England could appeal to him.

He has plenty of suitors in the English top-flight and across Europe, but most of them are waiting until the summer before moving and Arsenal have a chance to steal a march on them by going after him this month.
