Arsenal did not make any signings during the winter transfer window.
The Gunners have fared well in the Premier League with 50 points from 24 matches, but they are still six points behind leaders Liverpool, who have a game in hand.
The attack has been weakened by injuries to Bukayo Saka and Gabriel Jesus, while Gabriel Martinelli could be sidelined too, after picking up a hamstring issue in midweek.
Daily Mail’s Sami Mokbel now reports that a versatile forward and a marquee striker could be signed when the transfer window reopens at the end of the season.
Alongside this, the club are poised to reinforce the holding midfield department, with Jorginho and Thomas Partey set to depart at the expiry of their contracts (June 30).
Arsenal are in advanced talks to land Real Sociedad midfielder Martin Zubimendi. Mokbel reports he ‘looks certain’ to arrive from the La Liga outfit this summer.
Zubimendi is one of the best holding midfielders in the Spanish top-flight, and it appears he could eventually leave his boyhood club for a new challenge abroad.
The midfielder, who is ‘world-class‘ as per Kieran Tierney, was the subject of a transfer bid from Liverpool last summer, but the Spaniard decided to stay with Sociedad.
However, it seems Arsenal are progressing towards a deal at the end of the season. The Gunners are likely to trigger his release clause of around £52 million, as per Mokbel.
Jorginho is anticipated to depart with talks underway with Flamengo. The Brazilian outfit are expected to finalise a pre-contract after Arsenal turned down a mid-season sale.
Partey could also leave when his deal expires this summer, but we would prefer to keep him for at least another year, considering his consistency and fitness this campaign.
The Ghanaian’s quality has never been doubted, but injuries have played a significant role in his Arsenal career. Partey has looked at his best this term, having stayed unscathed.
If the midfielder were to stay injury-free for the rest of the season, the Gunners should consider keeping him next term with an option to extend for another 12 months at least.
