Arsenal will be hoping to reach the semi-final of the UEFA Champions League when they take on defending champions Real Madrid in the second leg of the quarter-finals at the Santiago Bernabéu on Wednesday. After winning the first leg 3-0 at the Emirates Stadium last week, Mikel Arteta’s side will be full of confidence and high hopes of making it through.
Aston Villa's defeat on Tuesday means the Premier League’s hopes in Europe’s top-tier competition now rest solely on Arsenal. If they make it to the semi-finals, it will be the first time since the 2008–09 season. Despite injury doubts, Thomas Partey and Ben White should be available for selection for the English side.
The Spaniard is excellent at shot-stopping and can play out from the back under pressure. He will be keen to keep another clean sheet against Real Madrid.
Looks recovered from injury issues. His versatility and defensive intelligence will be vital against Madrid’s left side, especially Vinícius Jr.
Saliba is the defensive leader of the team. His pace and positioning are crucial to containing Madrid’s attackers. He will be hoping for another composed performance.
The Pole has done well since coming into the team for the injured Gabriel. He gives balance to the backline, especially when Lewis-Skelly moves forward.
He had a great game against Madrid last time. A first-choice regular in the team in recent months.
The former Real Madrid player returns to the Santiago Bernabéu. The skipper leads the press and controls Arsenal’s tempo.
Although an injury doubt, he trained recently and should be fit to start in midfield. He will be hoping to shield the backline and disrupt Madrid's rhythm once again.
The hero of the first leg. Not just a threat from set-pieces, his ball-winning and box-to-box engine capabilities make him an important player for the Gunners.
Had a scare last time against Madrid but dismissed all concerns by appearing as a second-half substitute against Brentford. Saka is their main attacking outlet on the right.
The Spaniard, back in his homeland, will be hoping to get on the scoresheet once again. He gives them aerial strength and can drop into midfield when needed.
The Brazilian’s pace and directness on the counter can be an important tool for Arteta. He stretched Madrid’s defense last time.
