Arsenal host Aston Villa in the Premier League this evening in another crucial clash for the club’s title challenge.
Mikel Arteta’s men recovered from a mini-wobble to beat Tottenham Hotspur in the North London derby in midweek. An own goal from Dominic Solanke and Leandro Trossard’s strike sealed the points for Arsenal, who moved with four points of leaders Liverpool.
It was a vital victory for the Gunners, as Liverpool, Nottingham Forest and Chelsea all dropped points.
Next up for Arsenal is the visit of Aston Villa to the Emirates. Former Arsenal boss Unai Emery masterminded home and away wins for Aston Villa over his old side last season. That included a 2-0 win in the capital that derailed Arsenal’s title bid.
Villa have won three consecutive games since the turn of the new year.
Arsenal will be without Gabriel Jesus for the rest of the season after the striker sustained a serious knee injury last weekend. Jesus joins Bukayo Saka and Ethan Nwaneri on the sidelines to leave Arsenal light in the final third.
Riccardo Calafiori remains a doubt so teenager Myles Lewis-Skelly could continue at left-back. Neither Ben White or Takehiro Tomiyasu are yet ready to return.
Arsenal predicted XI: Raya; Timber, Saliba, Gabriel, Lewis-Skelly; Merino, Rice; Trossard, Odegaard, Martinelli, Havertz.
Arsenal host Aston Villa in the Premier League on Saturday 18th January 2025. Kick-off in North London is 17:30 GMT.
Arsenal vs Aston Villa will be shown on Sky Sports Main Event, Sky Sports Ultra, Sky Go UK, NOW UK and Sky Sports+.
