La Liga giants Barcelona have on Friday been dealt something of a blow on the financial front.

This comes amid confirmation that Premier League outfit Aston Villa have tied up a deal for a new right-back.

The player primed to take his talents to Villa Park comes in the form of Levante’s Andrés García, after Unai Emery’s side agreed to fork over a sum in the region of €9 million (including bonuses).

That’s according to Diario Sport, citing Superdeporte, who point towards the operation as being on the verge of an official announcement.

So, why will such news come as a blow to those behind the scenes at the aforementioned Barcelona?

Prior to seeking out a deal for García, Aston Villa expressed a keen interest in the services of Celta Vigo star Óscar Mingueza.

So much so that some sources went as far as to assure that the Claret and Blue were ready to activate the Spanish international’s €20 million release clause.

In the case of as much, Barcelona would have been entitled to 50% of the fee, owing to a sell-on clause included in the deal which sent Mingueza to Balaídos.

No such cash injection, however, looks set to be coming the way of the Blaugrana, for the time being at least.
