Atalanta won’t have Ademola Lookman for at least three weeks due to a minor knee injury, which could prompt them to seek a new attacker in January. The star has been diagnosed with a low-grade lesion of the distal insertion of the MCL in his right knee.
“We expected this diagnosis. He had been playing through something for a couple of games after a knock on the fibular head. He looked better versus Como, but then he was uncomfortable in training on Monday. That’s the prognosis, but we hope he’ll be back sooner. He probably aggravated it, but it’s a standard injury. We wish for a shorter recovery time.”
Instead, the boss got spicy when quizzed about whether they’d seek a Lookman replacement on the market.
“I don’t know, you’d have to ask the management. I don’t think much can happen in the final days of the window for an absence that could last for less than a month. There shouldn’t be a juxtaposition between me and the front office every time the market is open. It wouldn’t be a gift for me but for Atalanta. Who would I like from Barcelona? We usually don’t buy but sell.”
According to Alfredo Pedullà, Atalanta will examine dated targets to fill in for Lookman, like Daniel Maldini, Ryan Cherki, and Giacomo Raspadori. The commissions for the Olympique Lyonnais ace are particularly high. La Dea is gauging the interest in Nicolò Zaniolo, who hasn’t done much with them.
