Benoit Badiashile believes Chelsea team-mate Josh Acheampong can go on to become a “top player.”

Acheampong started on Thursday night as the Blues put one foot in the Conference League final with a 4-1 win in Sweden against Djurgarden.

Jadon Sancho and Noni Madueke scored in the first half whilst Nicolas Jackson added a brace in the second to put the Chelsea in firm control of the tie.

Badiashile a fan of Acheampong

Acheampong started at right back as Enzo Maresca shuffled his pack, likely with half an eye on the huge Premier League game against Liverpool on Sunday.

The 18-year-old signed a new long term contract at Chelsea last year and has started two Premier League games this season, with Maresca claiming he was the best player on the pitch on his first league start against Crystal Palace.

Acheampong has made 11 appearances in all competitions, with two starts in the league and six in the Conference League.

Badiashile, who wants to remain at Chelsea this summer believes Acheampong can become a top player.

“Josh is a really good player who can be a top, top player,” he told Chelsea’s website.

“He’s someone who loves to listen and to work so we will try to help him reach the highest level.”

Chelsea to make defensive signings

The Blues have a number of centre backs on their books and it’s unclear what Acheampong’s future looks like for next season.

The 18-year-old can play at both centre back and right back, but the competition for places in both areas is fierce.

Perhaps the best option would be for Acheampong to go loan and play regular first team football to help him develop as a player.

It also wouldn’t come as a surprise if Chelsea received a suitable offer for the teenager that they would look to sell, with West Ham said to have strong interest.
