As is the case in Copa del Rey and La Liga, FC Barcelona are also having a very good season in the UEFA Champions League, in which they have made their way to the quarter-final stage after beating SL Benfica in the Round of 16 with a 4-1 scoreline.
The latest match, which ended in a 3-1 win for the Blaugranes, was only the latest indication of the way they have played so far in the competition, proving themselves to be one of the most dangerous and exciting teams participating.
The frontline of Raphinha, Lamine Yamal, and Robert Lewandowski has been a key component of this team that has allowed them to progress this far into the tournament.
In fact, as SPORT has noted, this Barcelona trio is on track to break a scoring record in the competition, which is currently held by another Blaugrana trident of the past, that of Lionel Messi, Luis Suarez, and Neymar Junior.
In the 2014-15 season, Luis Enrique’s Barcelona team played 13 games in the UCL, and went on to win the treble. In that season, the MSN attacking line scored 27 goals. Messi and Neymar both had the same number of goals, 10, while Suarez scored another 7.
For the current trio of LRL, Raphinha is the top scorer with his 11 goals. Robert Lewandowski has scored another 9 goals, while Lamine Yamal has 3 goals to his name so far. Thus, the trident has already reached 23 goals in the UCL, which is only 4 less than the haul managed by MSN.
If everything goes in their favour, Barcelona can still play five more games in the current edition of the competition. And keeping in view the form of this frontline, it seems they will easily be able to break this record in the Premier European competition.
