Up-and-coming talents at La Liga’s two leading clubs are considered the future central defensive partnership of the Spanish national team.
That’s according to Diario AS, who point towards Pau Cubarsí and Raúl Asencio as the pair in question.
Barcelona standout Cubarsí is of course already a regular in the Spanish senior setup, having racked up five appearances since his debut in 2024.
Still just 18, the starlet is therefore considered La Roja’s next defensive star of the future.
And joining Cubarsí at the heart of Spain’s backline for years to come is expected to be a breakout member of the defensive ranks at Real Madrid.
As per a report from Diario AS, Raúl Asencio is on the verge of his maiden senior call-up to Luis de la Fuente’s squad.
The youngster is understood to have left the Spanish coaching staff more than impressed with his performance against Manchester City in the Champions League this week.
In turn, it is concluded that:
‘The future replacements for the Robin Le Normand – Aymeric Laporte duo will be Cubarsí and Asencio, two defenders who have in common their speed and their ability to anticipate.’
