La Liga giants Barcelona could be without the services of a key member of the club’s backline for an extended period moving forward.
That’s according to Barca insider Javier Miguel of Diario AS, who points towards Iñigo Martínez as the player in question.
Defender Iñigo for his part set alarm bells sounding in Catalunya’s capital on Sunday evening.
This came after the Spaniard – a mainstay in Hansi Flick’s defensive setup this season – was forced into a first-half departure from the Blaugrana’s Super Cup final showdown with Real Madrid.
As much proved the sole negative on an otherwise stellar night’s work for Barcelona.
As alluded to above, though, if the latest word stemming from the media is anything to go by, then the setback could prove an altogether costly one.
As per a report from Diario AS, Iñigo is thought to have suffered a tear in his right hamstring.
Should such a diagnosis be confirmed upon the stopper being put through a round of medical tests on Tuesday, he will be expected to miss around five weeks of action, amounting to at least eight fixtures.
This could also have a major impact on the future of another of Barca’s central defenders, with Juventus’ hopes of landing Ronald Araújo likely to be dashed in the case of Iñigo being ruled out for an extended time.
