In a little over two months since making his debut for FC Barcelona, Wojciech Szczesny seems to have won over the coaching staff and the club administration fully.

The 34-year-old was roped in as an emergency signing in September following the serious injury to Marc-Andre ter Stegen.

Having come out of retirement, the Pole needed time to get back to full fitness and be match-ready.

And even though there were some hiccups early on, he managed to convince Hansi Flick that he was the right man for the job, replacing Inaki Pena in the process.

Now, according to Fabrizio Romano, Barcelona are very much open to discussing a new contract with Wojciech Szczesny, with his current one set to expire at the end of the season.

Both the coaching staff and the club are very happy with the impact that he has made since coming in, both on and off the pitch.

As such, the Blaugrana are open to the idea of the former Juventus and Arsenal star extending his stay at the club beyond the current season.

The Catalans are thus willing to hold talks with Szczesny over a new contract in the coming weeks or months, with the club not in any hurry to finalise the renewal.

The update from Romano further adds that the final decision will be fully up to the 34-year-old veteran, who, as mentioned previously, had to be coaxed out of retirement to sign for Barcelona.

However, in a recent interview, Szczesny did express his openness to renewing his contract with Barça, meaning there is a solid possibility that the partnership will continue beyond the ongoing season.
